735i mods

Post by shootupbuddie101 »

I have a 1990 735i automatic with a cold air intake and a performance ECU from Bavarian Autosport. I was thinking about putting in an MSD 6a ignition system for more power but what else can I do to make it faster??

Ya know, I was gonna say something smart like "shoot it out of a cannon!" ... but yeah. Turbo.

Somebody brought an E34 with a turbo'd M30 in it to an autocross a couple of years ago. It was sick. Couldn't keep the car straight.

I do agree that a turbo would be sick, however I am just entering college and a turbo isn't the cheapest option.

of course I second badbadm suggestion of a turbo (the M30 is one engine that could handle it :) )

you want a cheap clean upgrade, if your production date is older 7/90(which it is probably) , you then have a 3.91 differential...find yourself a used 1991-92 735i/il diff which would be a 4.27 !!!

The date of production is 2/90, now what? Can I still play with the differentials?

absolutely! but be sure you are getting a 4.27(LSD would be a bonus!).
there should be a medal tag attached to one of the cover mounting bolts in which will indicate the ratio...

in rare cases it is not there, spin the input flange about 4 1/4 turns should turn the output flanges 1 complete revolution.
