2004 745 Li (Rough Idling)

Post by Dominic »

2004 745 Li with VANOS & Valvetronic. Vehicle is rough in morining when start engine until warms up. A little loud. Engine Idle Speed sometimes is up and down and sounds like 1 or 2 plus could be misfiring. Dealer states this is normal. Car is under warranty until 08/2008 and then is CPO until 08/2010. I have read articles that this could be an internal problem and could be costly. Dealer states it is fine. Anyone have the same problem?

I know you posted this a looooooooonnnggggggg time ago, but yes, we experience this in our 750i too. I'm sure its nothing to worry about, otherwise you'd see horror stories across the net. By accident, I posted over on Bimmerfest complaining about everything wrong about the car and a BMWNA rep posted back saying he would call us.. Surely enough the phone rang and it was BMWNA. A little strange eh? Anyway, they said the rough idle is fine and is nothing to worry about and answered some of the other questions.

Bottom line, they say its fine

Common problem for the E65. I'm a BMW tech and I had a lot of complaints for the rough running problem. There is a problem with the valvetronic intermediate levers from production dates between 6/04 and 2/05. There is a updated lever for this issue. If your car falls into this date range, this might be the fix. Also I think you should get the software updated to the latest version. There is a lot of new fixes in the latest version.

Who refuses to do updates? If you have a problem that BMW says an update of the DME will be the fix, there shouldn't be a problem performing it. Call me if you want to bring it in for the updated software. I am not sure about the valvetronic update, but there are a few bulletins pertaining to this problem (that BMW says is not a problem). One thing that will help is running Shell V-Power 93 fuel. Running this fuel is a big plus for this car.

just to confirm, theres updates for a 2006 750i? If so I'll have my dad contact you via phone tomorrow.

Also, we do run the shell 93 octane gas.. Its amazing how many autox'ers I run into to get gas on Super Tuesdays. :P

My production date was 06/2004. The dealer (the actual foreman) has told me that there were no updates for this vehicle (last month) and the engine is fine. I do not buy this for one minute. If the vehicle is under warranty and BMW has to pay for this, then what is the problem. Where are you a tech? What is the #? Can I contact you?

TY
