Question, I bought a used 2001 5301 and it has the cell phone controls on the steering wheel. I never tried to see if it worked, because I really didn't care. The other day I decided to try and see if it worked and the owners book tells you to look at the cell phone book which I don't have. So does anybody know what it takes to get the system to operate, or where I can go to find out how, or if it will even work with the new cell phones. My phone does have bluetooth on it.

for your car, the best way to get the phone working would be to use a bluetooth retrofit solution. A good example is bimmernav.com

2001 blue tooth options
You have three choices:
1) official BMW solution $1000+ Voice control for nav & phone
2) unofficial BMW solution $400 approx nav control may not work
3) aftermarket - Parrot phone only
Bimmernav is probably the easiest route but also one of the most expensive. You can find out a lot on the 5 series or 7 series forums. Try this link to get started. http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/bluetooth/

Thanks for the feed back. I went to Bimmernav and checked out the kits, I think I will wait awhile. I have a blue tooth ear piece that I will use.
