Advice sought re Run Flats Replacement...

Post by awbusch »

Getting ready to replace the run flats (which I don't like!) on my F25 X3, and wishing I had a spare!
Has anyone made the switch away from run flats to conventional tires? If so, how has this worked out? And, which tire repair/inflation kit did you select? Thanks.

I had an F30 335 which arrived with run flats. I quickly changed them to traditional tires and found myself an appropriate spare from Bimmerzone. On the plus side it was a spare and it worked the one time I needed it but did take up some trunk space. Of course the biggest benefit was the upgraded driving experience.

I carry a M Mobility kit when I'm running non-runflat winter tires. I have to say I'm not 100% comfortable with the arrangement, but except for a blowout it would probably get me to a place where I could buy a tire. This issue is BMW's answer to electric range anxiety! Low probability of a flat, but without a spare you're screwed if it happens on a Sunday - and it always does.

I recently went non-RF on my E93 convertible. Sourced spare from Bimmerzone and added a jack, chock and wrench. Better ride and piece of mind, but does consume most of trunk. Don't mind tho as this isn't my hauler.

BTW Bimmerzone rep was able to upgrade tire to a Conti for a few bucks - this option was not available online.
