Re: OCT 18 autocross at PNC
Hi Changwah, We don't do advance registration for our autocrosses. (We do for the joint ones we run with MSNE, but not for the ones that are just the NJ BMW club, such as the one in October). Just print out the registration form and bring it with you on 10/18. Looking forward to seeing you there. Ma...

Re: helmet headset
I can hear better with the two-earpiece headset than I can with the single-earpiece ones that the instructors provide, so I'd suggest it for anyone who has trouble hearing their instructor over the ambient noise on the track. And it's faster getting going, as long as you've glued in the velcro so yo...

Re: helmet headset
Hi Colin, That's the one -- I bought one before our last event. The newer intercoms take the 3.5 mm jack pictured in your link. The older ones take the 6-pin connector, so I at the same time that I bought the headset I also bought the 3.5 mm to 6-pin adaptor. My instructor turned out to have the old...

E46 M3, SMG, Leguna Seca Blue
I noticed a really nice-looking E46 M3, SMG, Laguna Seca blue for sale. It's parked on a front lawn on Rte. 31 in Pennington, NJ, a couple of blocks from me. I don't know the owner or anything about the car, apart from what I can see from the exterior. If someone's interested I'll go get the phone n...

Re: New to Autocross
Hi Rich, Yes, welcome. As Mark said we were all the new guy at one point. At each autocross there are friendly and helpful instructors who are happy to ride with you and show you the ropes. I highly recommend that, at least for the first couple of runs. After several years I still grab one occasiona...

That does look like fun. I'll be there with my new toy.

Re: AMGTHIS
Didn't we used to have a letter from Larry Engel that said something along the lines of "Hey, wouldn't you like to join the club?" An update of that might be useful. I've left the hand-written equivalent under a couple of windshield wipers.

Re: Steering wheel cover?
This is very useful information. I like Colin's cautionary tale. It all reminds me of the three weekends I spent trying to glue the drooping fabric back on my door seal. Eventually I gave up and replaced the whole door seal. Ask me anything about specialty adhesives.

Re: Steering wheel cover?
That looks very nice. Do you take off the existing leather, or does the new covering go over it?

Re: Steering wheel cover?
Thanks for the reply. Wheelskins looks like a good option. The worn place isn't that deep so I don't think I'd feel it through a cover.
Is replacing the cover with a UUC cover a do-it-yourself operation, or do I need an automotive upholster or other professional?

Steering wheel cover?
Hi all, I, and all the previous owners, have worn through the leather on the steering wheel of my '01 M3 (coupe, 6MT, 138k miles), exposing the foam underneath. I've looked around for a cover but haven't found anything. The worn spot is around the 8 o'clock position, where the heel of my hand rests ...

Driver school - patched tire?
We have an 2003 330Ci that is going to Shenandoah for the Sept. HPDE. The left front tire is losing about a pound per week. A reputable mechanic feels that, if the leak is in a patchable spot, it is ok to patch it and drive it on the track. However my understanding is that a patched tire no longer h...
