E36 Convertible Top Installer - North Jersey

OEM Quality replacement convertible soft tops are still readily available from California manufacturers like GAHH, for around $1,000. The trick is to find someone to install it, as anyone other than a specialized shop will ask for not just an arm and a leg, but also the other arm and leg as well. Of...

Re: NJ Mechanics Who Know Anything About the 8-Series? (E31)

Just a quick update: I continue to heartily recommend Mike at NorthEast Motorsports for any required work on E31 8-Series (or for any other BMW work). Over the past several years since the last post above, I have steadily had Mike work on maintaining and updating my two 850s. He worked on these cars...

Re: NJ Mechanics Who Know Anything About the 8-Series? (E31

Hi Ron You should really contact Mike from Northeast motors sport in north Jersey Hi Nbender: Thanks, and your response is timely. I was at Mike's just yesterday, following a similar referral from Bimmerforums.com, which now seems to be the worldwide go-to place for 8-Series discussions. Up until t...

E31 8 Series Sunroof Removal and Replacement

There are lots of guys around who say they know sunroofs. But does anybody know of someone who has ACTUALLY WORKED ON a BMW 8 Series sunroof? Even the BMW repair instructions refer to care being required in certain steps not to break plastic parts upon reinstall. Any referrals will be appreciated! -...

Re: Looking for High Quality BMW Detailers in North NJ Area

Thanks, I will call them. They are right next to Shade Tree Garage, as I recall, and I did visit their shop once, maybe as part of a Club meeting. However, they look like they are most interested in selling you clear plastic protections, etc, versus a straight, volume production detailing operation....

Looking for High Quality BMW Detailers in North NJ Area

Sadly, Beverly Hills Auto Resort (945,000 hits on Google) of Basking Ridge, one of the longest running, best auto detailers in NJ, has closed after 28 years. Those of us who had them detail our cars are bereft. Great, high quality work, at a reasonable price. I would travel from Montclair / West Ora...

Re: NJ Mechanics Who Know Anything About the 8-Series? (E31

Thank you all, I will pursue your various suggestions. TimCircleBMW, do you happen to remember the name of the shop foreman at Circle BMW? Regarding issues, all I know is that to own one of these cars it is essential to have knowledgeable mechanics on tap. Clearly I would need one or more for each o...

NJ Mechanics Who Know Anything About the 8-Series? (E31)

Does anyone here know of any NJ mechanics with experience or a reputation as knowledgeable about the E31 8 Series cars -- the V12 850s in particular, with M70 or M73 engines?

Reprogram 1996 328 Auto Trans A4S270R?

Although this car has a flashable Siemens DME, it still has a Bosch chip-based automatic transmission computer. I'm quite happy with the DME mapping for now, but I'd like to be able to remap the transmission for faster torque converter lockup in full throttle downshifts from top to third above 80 MP...

MoDiC Tool Update

Turns out there are two types of MoDiC: up until 1997, there was the small 4-line-screen hand tool, which came with a separate integrated charging station and printer; then from 1998 through 2001, there was a larger, full-screen 1024x768 portable device, called the MoDic iii, that came with a big ch...
