I have an 85 325e Manual trans. I used to start right up and drive.

I let it sit for about 8 months only starting it and driving it around my property. Now it only starts then runs for about 5 seconds then dies out.
It can't seen to keep running once it starts.

Any ideas?

Fuel filter? Pump? I'd verify you have fuel pressure.

I agree with Bob. Sounds like a fuel pump/filter issue. Could also be some sort of vacuum leak, but that is less likely than a fuel delivery problem. On these older cars (especially ones that sit a lot) the hoses and lines do tend to dry out and crack.

I agree that you should first establish that you have fuel supply. That is easy on an e motor because there is a starting injector in the inlet manifold. You can disconnect the fuel hose from the starting injector to check your fuel supply pressure and volume.

If you have fuel supply, next check that the "door" in the air-flow meter is not frozen shut. It should push open easily with your finger.

How does the 8-month old gas affect the situation?
