NJ BMWCCA members to do 24 Hours of LeMons

Post by sab0276 »

A few NJ BMWCCA members will be participating in at least two 24 Hours of LeMons events in the 2009 season. We are campaigning a 1991 BMW 318is donated to us by NJ BMWCCA member Mario Meise.

Our team name is Duct Tape Motorsports.

NJ BMWCCA members include drivers Scott Barton, Ed Walters, Brian Henry, and Gary Savill. Crew members include Ken Herskovitz , Mike Marvuglio, Anna Barton, Than Orens, and Ed Bansch.

We are planning on doing the New England race at Stafford Motorspeedway on July 11-12 and Carolina Motorpsorts Park event on Sept 12-13.

We have been documenting the build of the 318 at http://dtmlemons.blogspot.com

Highlights of the blog include a video of pulling out the damaged trunk with a back hoe, soldering our wiring harness with a MAPP gas torch, and a live web cam where you can watch us work on the car in real time.

Edit: Updated pic of the car

I wish you and the team the best of luck! You can check out http://www.bmwlemons.com/ to see the now defunct team Bayerische Zitrone Werke and our try for the 24hrs 2008. We didn't get much past looking at cars for the 24 hours before some unfortunate circumstances put the race beyond our reach. Keep us updated so we can live vicariously through your team. Good luck!!!

Used and totaled E30 for Lemons?

$150 salvage value.

Gas for the 'burban to get it to Brian's house?

$50.

Body by Barton, including the use of delicate tools like a backhoe and a bf sledge hammer?

Priceless!

Sweet!

Although I am not sure about securing the rollbar with a bungie cord. Just doesn't seem safe... ;)

It's not securing the rollbar, it's securing the roof!

After the cage is welded in, the bungee cord will be used to hold down the driver.

Looking at the second picture it seems you guys are electrifying the roll cage. Good thinking. It will keep the night shift driver awake.

Who's driving the night shift anyway?

Oh is that one of those cool black lights tha makes white stuff glow by the rear window? I had one in college. The car will look pimpin at night.

That's the ground for the plasma cutter which is used to keep the nachos warm during the race. The cool shirt cooler will go into the front passenger footwell to keep beers within reach.

You all still going to the Stafford Motorspeedway on July 11-12?

I know it conflicts with the auto-x and Gymkhana, but anyone thinking of going to the Lemons? Sounds like it could be quite entertaining.

Game on. The car is done. The few final non-safety details left will be complete in the next couple days.

Anyone start a pool on how long the profile gasket lasts in our M42?

Ed,

Be sure to get pictures and a story so we can read about it in the Bulletin.

More on roll out and throughout the event.

I look forward to calling out over the radio "Stop driving like an A-hat, you'll get us crushed!"
