Need water pump hold down tool for an E34

Post by jimoreno »

Hey everyone, I'm trying to replace my son's car fan clutch and even though I have the 32-mm wrench for the first time I just can't get it off. I typically have been able to give it a good wack with the hammer and it loosens easily (yes I know it's reverse threaded). Anyone close to NNJ that has it? It's probably gonna take 10 minutes tops to get it off so I can even do it on the road! I've done this many times be with the hammer before and it never failed me.

I have one in Randolph. You are welcome to use it in my driveway or you can borrow it for a while if necessary.

Would the tool be the same as that for an M42 engine? Pretty sure I donated one of those to, or maybe borrowed it from, the Chapter toolbox about five years ago....

Thanks for the responses everyone! I'll try to make the tool (so that I don't need it again in the future!) but if that doesn't work, I'll get in touch with some of you.
Thanks for the support!

I forgot to update this! I managed to build the DIY tool and loosen the big nut. I did had to grind the sides of the 32-mm wrench that I have as I couldn't fit both of them in the same space.
Thanks for the help guys!

awesome! hopefully you put anti-seize paste on so the next time the nut backs off easier (forgot to remind you when I posted the tool dimensions)
