BMW Corral and car show-Lime Rock Historic Vintage Festival

Post by pauln »

The Festival will take place at Lime Rock Park between Sept. 4-7.

This is a four day event, with racing on Friday, Saturday and Monday. Sunday is our annual car show, Sunday in the Park. Their will be eight race groups, comprised of early 20th century race cars up to and including Grand Prix cars from the 70's. The race groups include sports and sports production cars from the FIA, Formulas 5000 and Atlantic and the Can Am series. In addition, we will have one hour Enduros on Saturday and Monday. These longer races offer drivers the opportunity to engage in race tactics with a mandatory driver change required.

Among the weekend highlights will be an exhibit of rare race cars from the famous Collier Museum in Naples, Florida. Foremost is a 1939 Mercedes Benz Silver Arrow, a 540hp, 220 mph race car, one of the famous MB series which dominated Grand Prix racing in the pre-WWII era. We hope to have this beast fired up and on the track. Also from Collier will be a 1955 Lancia D-50 Grand Prix car and a 1927 Delage Formula One car.

Sunday in the Park has become one of the largest car shows in the Northeast. It features over 350 cars of all sizes and descriptions ranging from antiques to exotics, race cars to woodies, road cars to hot rods. This year we plan to have the show cover the entire 1.3 mile track. Sunday at Lime Rock is a fun family day. We will have people shuttles on the track, food available in a tent at Big Bend and plenty of space for picnics. Sponsored by Road&Track, the show has awards for best cars and a Rolex Watch for Best-in-Show.

For BMW Clubs, we are planning a corral on Saturday and Monday, depending on the number of cars registering. A minimum of 25 cars is required for a corral. Each club member in a corral will receive an LRP welcome bag with event hat, program, poster and LRP lapel pin. We will also plan BMW Club parade laps on each race day, again depending on number of cars attending. Hospitality is available at cost and can be arranged on request. (Contact Alex Kenyon at 860 435 5000, ext.302). There will be at least one BMW dealer exhibiting on our midway.

BMW Club 10% discount tickets can be ordered on the LRP website. Go to limerock.com, click on "Tickets", scroll down and click on "Vintage Festival Corrals", in the box enter BMW2009. If ordered before August 15, tickets can be mailed and/or they can be picked up at Will Call at the track entrance. (All ticket questions can be directed to Mike O'Flinn, LRP Ticket Manager at the above tel # or mike.o@limerock.com) Prices are $80./person weekend, $35/person on race days and $20/person on Sunday.

In addition, there is no registration charge for the Sunday car show this year, only the $20/person track admission fee.( for those who might want to come Sunday only). Of course, the weekend ticket includes Sunday.

We encourage each area BMW Club to enter their ten best cars in the show. We will offer dedicated space on the track to each club for this purpose. We will need confirmation from the clubs that they intend to paricipate on Sunday.

If you are interested in participating in the car corral on Saturday or car show on Sunday, please contact NJ BMW CCA Business Manager, Paul Ngai.

We look forward to welcoming the BMW Clubs once again to the 27th Vintage Festival at Lime Rock
