WTB: your dead engine block

Post by colin »

Yes, I'm making a coffee table. Yes, I live alone. :P

So like, if you've got a BMW engine block lying around, preferably minus pistons and crank and such, I'd like to buy it from you. Preferably a straight-six, but I'm open. I don't care if it's rusty or is cracked or has a hole in the side or whatever. Actually, bonus points if it has a big frickin' hole in the side. Looking to spend under $200. I've found these on ebay, but it would be nice to get one locally.

pm me or email me or just post back or whatever. Thanks!

Can't figure out if this means you'll give the person $200, or that we can give you $200 and you'll take care of our old blocks...

Heh. I've seen your garage, Dave. Two hundred bucks wouldn't cut it either way. ;)

So anyway! I appear to have an M20 engine of some sort, but I can't tell anything else about it. Anybody have a clue?

Also, I'm having trouble removing this last piece - it appears to be part #25 in this diagram. Does it just pry out? I've tried a little, but it doesn't budge. The oil pump drive shaft is already removed. Thanks for any insight!

Sadly, no. In fact it looked to be in pretty good condition. Anybody need an M20 crankshaft...?

I have an M20 block you can have if you agree to remove the cylinder head and oil pan for me.

It should not be too difficult to install a hole, but you might have to answer some uncomfortable questions from neighbors and LEOs afterward. (I assume you are only interested in aesthetically-correct holes that were created from inside the block...)

I never thought I'd say this, but I think I don't actually have any guns big enough for this job! Time to Buy My Own Damn Present(tm). :D

I know of a couple S54 blocks that have fist sized holes in them. If you are interested let me know via email.

Special thanks to Chris C., club member, for the engine. Also special thanks to Chris S., a good friend of mine since forever, for welding. And a shout-out to Fischer Automotive Machine in Edison for doing a great job cleaning up the block and pistons.

Colin, nice job!

I have to get my manual out and see if you have the right firing order.
