I think that the Automatic is turning everyone off.
The E36 M3 Ragtop is not a sports car. At it's best it is a cruiser (not even a GT car).
The main reason for this is the cowl shake. The big tires and M suspension make it pretty useless for anything but cruising on smooth highways.
I have 3 E36s and this car was reserved for long trips and cruising the beaches in the Summer.
Because of the cowl shake, the Auto transmission is the best answer for this car. 5th gear in the Auto allows this car to get 29MPG. The 5Speed E36 M3 gets only 24MPG because there is no OD. 5th gear in the stick is 1 to 1, No OD.
If your looking for a beautiful 4 seat convertible for the family to cruise and hang out in, this is a great vehicle.
