What fluid for power steering?

Post by gfield »

The reservoir cap for the power steering fluid says "ATF Oil only" what type of ATF is required? Redline carries two types of ATF DT4 and DT6, I don't recall the difference between the two. I have purchased Dextron from BMW dealership. What is the equivalent in other brands? Who recommends what to replace the fluid when the pump, hoses, and reservoir are replaced?

Thanks,

There is a good chance that BMW ATF is rebadged Castrol ATF. BMW ATF is lifetime. If it is good enough for the life of the transmission, it should be good enough for your power steering.
