Does anyone know if the key has a battery? My remote controls will not work for one of my keys. The other key works fine. Dealer wanted to order a new key.
Thanks,
Bob
Key Remote Won't work
assuming it is a 5 series,e39, what year is it..
do you have a diamond shaped key? or the larger teardrop looking one..
the newer keys(diamond shape) 2000-01 or later had no replaceable batteries...
did the dealer at least have both keys and tried to reinitialize?
before i ask anymore questions,it will help with the vehicle and model year

In that case...the battery is not replaceable..
this key that does not work, has it not been used in awhile? if so,use the key for several days..the ignition cylinder EWS ring(driveaway protection) actually charges the key when inserted and engine on. this may revive the key.. unfortunately, the dealer may be right and the key may be bad
before i forget, of course you'll need to have the initialization attempted again..but remember, the initialization can only be done with both keys..
if done with one key ,the other key will stop working.your dealer should know that.

This must be a common problem. One day last year one of my keys did the same thing. It worked fine in the morning, but then all "remote" features stopped working. I have the same key for my 2001 e46. I took it for service at Morristown (old location) and the service advisor told me I just needed a new key...no logical explanation. Needless to say, I'm using the spare and probably won't both fixing them until this one does the same thing. Good luck!
