"The Grand Tour" is here!

Post by afadeev »

Don't miss it, it's a treat:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J94A5GQ/re ... _pr_1118gt

You will need Amazon Prime membership to watch it, or can sign up for a free 30-day trial.

Great to see the three Top Gear guys crank it to 11 with a nearly unlimited budget!
Oh, and they test drove an M2 around their new non-track, and liked it a lot, until it turned out to be slower than both the M3 and the M5...

It wasn't awful. The opening movement was excellent. The "celebrities" scene was hilarious. The new track looks like way more fun than the old one. I'd love to drive it. I'm looking forward to more of their traditional antics, however, since driving million dollar cars around foreign racetracks is irrelevant to me.

Loved 85% of the show. I thought they were trying too hard to replicate the original show. Need some new ideas here.

I suspect some of that is due to the first show's "we can't do that anymore" references to the old show, and those will go away (hopefully) in future episodes.

I remember reading an earlier article where, comically, Amazon and GT were forced to work around many near-absurd BBC copyrights, including but not exclusive to:
- no fixed filming location with a audience and cars (thus the tent, and show migrating each week)
- no fixed test/race/airport track (thus the Ebola-drome)
- no lap-times board for track times (thus the video screen)
- no celebrity guests posting lap times (thus the dead celebrity drop-ins)
- no Stig (thus Jérôme d'Ambrosio and "the American")

Some of the segments could otherwise be viewed as kinda weird (dead celebrities, "British air force" fracas), without noting references to the "old show".

All in all, even my better half liked GT.
The chemistrity between the three presenters is clearly there, and rescues a few ackward moments.

I can't wait for the next episode.
