Hello all -
Recently took delivery of a 2014 435xi 6spd manual from an NJ dealership.
The car was originally titled/sold in Pennsylvania and had NO inspection sticker
on the windshield when I picked it up a few weeks ago.
The dealership said they're required to strip the PA inspection sticker for
sale in NJ and that I would be responsible to get it inspected when the
NJ plates/reg arrived. Picking them up tomorrow.
I've purchased both new and CPO BMWs from dealers before and the cars
were always delivered properly inspected.
This sounds odd to me - any thoughts?
Thanks!
Anthony
CPO vehicle delivered with NO Inspection Sticker?
Re: CPO vehicle delivered with NO Inspection Sticker?
Selling a CPO car without the state inspection is ridiculous. Please share the name of the dealer.

I think this is very unusual, but I could be wrong and don't wantedw1 wrote:Selling a CPO car without the state inspection is ridiculous. Please share the name of the dealer.
to do any damage if I am wrong. I'd like to investigate further
before sharing. Still, hardly 'BMW-level Service' ...
Hoping to hear about anyone who experienced the same or from
someone with experience/knowledge of MVC/Inspection/Dealer policies.

So, I was wrong, and looked it up. The dealer should slap a sticker in the window and move on:
http://nj.gov/mvc/Inspections/Understanding.htm
Per the NJ MVC website: "In addition, effective August 1, 2010, New Car Dealers will be allowed to issue new vehicle stickers to used non-commercial vehicles less than five (5) model years old"
I guess the laws have changed since my dealership days, dealers in NJ didn't used to be able to provide a used car with a current inspection. They're only required to make sure it will pass inspection.

Re: CPO vehicle delivered with NO Inspection Sticker?
Picked up the plates/reg this morning and spoke to the dealership
manager about my (several) disappointments concerning delivery.
Many thanks to sgoatley2001e46 for the MVC link/info. I presented
a copy to the manager who stepped away to confer with others,
returning to inform me it didn't apply to "out-of-state cars". He
provided the typical "14-day inspection red card" for the windshield.
A mercifully short trip to MVC and the car is now legal.
We'll just add this interesting incident to the forum brain-trust ...
