Is this Isetta worth anything?

Post by davidmcintyre »

I have no more information than this picture, but I suspect I could obtain it for next to nothing, possibly nothing, although probably without a title...

Put out the word to my friend who is an Isetta enthusiast. Let's see if he posts a reply or gets back to me.

Looks pretty rough. A nice one recently got auctioned on Speed - I think it was Barrett-Jackson. Does anyone remember how much it went for?

(If nobody claims it, I'll pay $5 for the Roundel and Isetta badge.)

Dave,
I would say to contact Jenny Morgan (Die Werkstat) who writes in Roundel. He restores these things and I bet could tell you if it's worth anything.

Dave, can you find out a bit more? Here is the response I received from my friend Jim who is an Isetta enthusiast.

"Hey Doug,
It may not look like much and it probably has more rust in all the right places but as a donor or parts car it would have some value. I bought one similar in Phila. last fall and paid 500.00 for it. Would be interesting to see if it has the drive train. Cute little thing shame to see it rotting away. I would do an isetta rescue on it in a heartbeat.

Looks very much like a car I saw around the block from me in Newark sitting in a mechanic's shop. Would this be the same one?

I would love to restore something like this...it'd take up zero room and still be a fun project.

anyways, you can EASILY obtain a new title for this car while you're working on it so that shouldn't be a deterrent.

Dave, just bring it to my house. All forgotten BMW's seem to wind up here anyway.

That would be a fun project. Install a larger Beemer motorcycle engine in it and turn it into a Bavarian Resto Mod with 12" (+2 upgrade?) Panasports, Recaros, and a turbo just for kicks. Then you can run with the Smart Cars tooling the Parkway classic style.
