Re: Autox in 2021?

Yes, we are planning four autocrosses:

August 1
August 22
October 3
October 24

all at the Patriot's Ballpark in Bridgewater. We'll be posting these soon.

Re: Hans vs Schroth

Hi, I can't exactly answer your question, since I'm not familiar with the Schroth, except for the information I see on their web site. I have a HANS which seems to work fine. I have not "tested" it. The Schroth seems like a newer design with some nice features -- whether they make any practical diff...

Re: Preferred Insurance Company?

I also use Plymouth Rock, and have been happy with them. I don't think I've had a claim since we switched to them.

Re: 2021 Driving Season

Hi Allison,

I'm certainly looking forward to spring, too. Here's me and my student, both in Lotus Elises in a lead/follow format, at a National Capitol Chapter event, pointing the BMW's by.

Cheers,

Re: Black epoxy recommendation for e36 m3 front spoiler?

I don't know if this is appropriate for your spoiler, but I've used Ultra Black Gasket Maker to glue things together, and it may be the stickiest stuff known to man. My mechanic used it to glue a dead pedal into a Lotus cup car.

Re: Tow vehicle advice

The Ford Super Duty sounds cool, probably way more capable than I need. Good point about the extended cab.

Re: Tow vehicle advice

Thanks David, that’s helpful. What sort of car and trailer did you tow?

If you Google for “Dodge Durango”, what comes up is the Dodge web site with a picture of a Durango towing a race car on a trailer.

Tow vehicle advice

Hi all, I’ve been driving my Lotus Elise to the track for years. I’m thinking of towing it instead. Two reasons, the A/C isn’t working (the repair estimate for taking apart the front of the car and replacing the evaporator is ~$3K). Also, I’m in the market for a daily driver, and I’m thinking that c...

Re: Got (Aim) Data? '02 E46 M3

Hi, not really an answer to your question but, since I have the same AiM, your posting caught my eye. (And I used to have the same car, not that that matters). But I would like to make a suggestion -- don't worry too much (or at all) about your lap times. That's going to vary by conditions, and anyw...

Re: Approved Helmets for 2020 Schools?

Hi John, I’d like to offer a suggestion — buy your helmet from someplace you can go and try on helmets. The fit is important for both comfort and safety. I bought my first online. When it expired I bought my second from Stable Energies in Garfield, NJ. They were great — they spent about an hour with...

Re: Charging system light

Yeah, I can imagine if the voltage were low that various parts of the electrical system would behave oddly. One time I had several electrical things not working at once in my E46 M3, a window and I forget what else. Don Fields explained to me that the window switch tells the computer to put the wind...

Re: Charging system light

Thanks, Warren. We actually just picked the car up from the local mechanic. They said that although the car was acting normally, the alternator which is rated at 125 amps was outputting 55 amps. So they replaced the alternator. Last night when we took the car there, my son said everything electrical...

Re: Charging system light

Thanks, Colin, that's good to know. It sounds like needing to replace the alternator at this mileage is not surprising.

Thanks very much m20power. The Bentley manual states: Engine at rest, battery fully charged: 12.6 vdc Engine running, regulated voltage: 13.2 - 14.5 vdc Faulty regulator or multi-function controller > 14.8 vdc I measure: Engine off: 11.91 vdc Engine running (AC on): 11.19 vdc Engine running, (AC, re...
