Re: Approved Helmets for 2020 Schools?

Hi John, I’d like to offer a suggestion — buy your helmet from someplace you can go and try on helmets. The fit is important for both comfort and safety. I bought my first online. When it expired I bought my second from Stable Energies in Garfield, NJ. They were great — they spent about an hour with...

Re: Charging system light

Yeah, I can imagine if the voltage were low that various parts of the electrical system would behave oddly. One time I had several electrical things not working at once in my E46 M3, a window and I forget what else. Don Fields explained to me that the window switch tells the computer to put the wind...

Re: Charging system light

Thanks, Warren. We actually just picked the car up from the local mechanic. They said that although the car was acting normally, the alternator which is rated at 125 amps was outputting 55 amps. So they replaced the alternator. Last night when we took the car there, my son said everything electrical...

Re: Charging system light

Thanks, Colin, that's good to know. It sounds like needing to replace the alternator at this mileage is not surprising.

Re: Charging system light

Thanks very much m20power. The Bentley manual states: Engine at rest, battery fully charged: 12.6 vdc Engine running, regulated voltage: 13.2 - 14.5 vdc Faulty regulator or multi-function controller > 14.8 vdc I measure: Engine off: 11.91 vdc Engine running (AC on): 11.19 vdc Engine running, (AC, re...

Charging system light

Hi all, In my son's 2003 330ci, five-speed manual, 134,435 miles, the charging light (a battery symbol) on the dashboard is flickering. My local mechanic says that the alternator might be going bad, but it's still charging normally, so they suggested "keeping an eye on it". My question is -- how wil...

Re: Membership Prices 2020

Even though I expect to be in the club "forever", I've only ever renewed my membership annually, for no good reason. You can save a few bucks with a longer membership, and a new member can get in on the member new-car discount sooner.

Need car shipper recommendation

Hi all,

A friend needs to ship a classic Camaro from Oregon to NJ. Does anyone have a recommendation for a long-distance car shipper?

Thanks,
Matthew

BMW 335i

Hi all,

There's a nice-looking BMW 335i with an M package for sale around the corner from me in the Pennington, NJ area. I have no affiliation with the seller. The For Sale sign that you can't quite see in the picture says: Text 609 423 9147

Best,

Re: JULY 7 Autocross

We do drive in the rain, but it depends how hard it’s raining and whether there’s lightning. If the weather is questionable, a decision will be posted by 8am Sunday on the hotline: 908-322-2758, as well as here on the forum, and in an email to everyone registered on motorsportreg.com.

Re: MAY 19 AUTOCROSS

Hi NJMC40, At our autocrosses we divide into two groups. In the morning one group drives while the other group works the course, and then we switch places. Then in the afternoon we repeat the process. You have to work as many times as you drive so, if you have to leave at 2 pm, then you'd probably o...

Re: Looking for an engine re-builder / machine shop

It might be worth calling Don Fields @ Mr. M Car -- http://mrmcar.com . When my son's M Coupe's S54 engine had a spun rod bearing, Don sent the crankshaft out to someone for evaluation. So I imagine that even if he doesn't do rebuilds, that he would send the engine to someone, or refer you to someon...

Re: DIY garage space in Northern NJ?

My Lotus mechanic, Bill Thomas, and his partners run this club: https://performancegarageclub.com/ Membership includes the use of the lift and tools, as well as other benefits. (I get my car worked on there, and store it there in the winter, but I'm not actually in the club, since I wouldn't know wh...
